Eco Wine!

In keeping with yesterday's post, and in effort to help our dear blogger Amanda of Peony::Love, I thought we'd delve a little deeper into the world of wine today. Amanda recently asked if I could share any organic wineries or eco-friendly cocktails and while I'm not the connoisseur, I was more than happy to oblige.

Below you'll find three wedding friendly and budget friendly wines. A resources link can be found at the bottom of this post to aid in your own eco-wine search.

Cooper Mountain Vineyards Organic Pinot Noir. (Where to buy) Already picked by Amanda, but worth a second mention due to it's budget friendly price and high praise by the Good Wine under $20 blog.

Lolonis Ladybug Wines
(Where to buy) Not a completely organic wine company ( a preference of the wine maker) but no pesticides or herbicides are used and the fruit is organic. Roz Cummins of Grist gave it a "crisp yet not overly sharp lemon-lime flavor."

Trader Joe's Organic Syrah (purchase at Trader Joe's) At $4.99 a bottle, this is a crazy cheap red wine that gets good reviews.

Check in tomorrow for some eco-friendly cocktail ideas!

If you want more ideas for eco-friendly wine, beer, and cocktails, you might like to know that my latest book, "How To Get Married In Green: have an eco-friendly wedding without compromising on style," was published recently.

You can read more about it here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Get-Married-Green-Eco-friendly/dp/1845282701/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1195123385&sr=1-1

In the book I have devoted a whole chapter to eco-friendly drinks. Here's a sample of cocktail ideas:

FAIRTRADE BUCKS FIZZ
Fairtrade freshly-squeezed orange juice
Dry, fizzy British white wine (organic if possible)
Combine together in champagne glasses, in whatever proportions you prefer!
If you want to add a little kick to this recipe you can include a dash of an orange-based (preferably organic) liqueur.

ECO-FRIENDLY TOM COLLINS
2 ½ parts organic gin
1 part fresh fairtrade lemon juice
1/6 part white sugar dissolved in a little water
Fizzy natural British spring water
Place first three ingredients in glass or jug and top up with the fizzy water.

ECO DAIQUIRI
2 ½ parts organic white rum
1 part fresh fairtrade lime juice
1/6 part white sugar dissolved in a little water
Shake all ingredients together with some ice, and strain into appropriate glasses.

GREEN-AHOLIC COFFEE
1/3 part fairtrade brown sugar
2 1/2 parts organic whisky or brandy
5 parts hot fairtrade and/or organic coffee
1 part whipped locally produced organic cream
Place sugar and whisky in heatproof cup or mug and mix well, then add coffee and mix again. Finally add the whipped cream very carefully, pouring it over a large spoon so it remains at the top

I also run an associated blog where readers can post questions as comments, or email me with them, about how to make their wedding or other celebration more eco-friendly. I then respond on the blog, FOC of course! That's here:

With all good wishes
