When drug addicts are in rehab, they are actually encouraged to smoke cigarettes as a way to curb their destructive cravings. I think these chocolates are my cigarettes. I wrote in the past about avoiding sugary sweets, desserts, candy, etc... for thirty days, however it was a complete bust. During my effort, the cravings were pretty severe. Credit goes to my mother-in-law for giving me this recipe for all natural, no-sugar chocolates, which are made with stevia. Unlike alternative options, such as agave or honey, the body does not process it like regular sugar. While they don't taste like a Hershey bar, they are a decent substitute.
The ingredients you need are:
- Sweet Leaf Vanilla Creme
- Refined Coconut Oil
- Carob Powder
- Unsweetened Baking Chocolate (I used Ghiradelli)
- Cocoa Powder (optional)
Melt four or five tablespoons of coconut oil either on the stove or in the microwave to get it to a liquid consistency. Then melt one and a half squares of unsweetened baking chocolate.
Mix the liquid coconut oil with the melted chocolate in a medium sized bowl.
Then mix in 1 tbsp carob powder and 1 tbsp cocoa powder.*
Add about 1/4th of a teaspoon of the vanilla creme stevia.**
Mix it well with a fork, spoon, or whisk.
(You can also add in nuts or coconut or small bits of fruit.)
*The cocoa powder is optional. It just makes it a little more chocolatey.
** This will most likely be a personal choice, since you might like it a little more stevia-ish than me. I add a little less than 1/4th of a teaspoon and am pretty happy with the results.
