Interesting Vase Ideas

Who else had the phrase, "reduce, reuse, recycle" drilled into their head as a kid? Although it sounds rudimentary, it's the easiest eco-friendly checklist to follow. You'll find the pictures below follow this mantra fairly well: each floral arrangement is fairly small or simplified (reduced), the vases are either something easily found either in a thrift store or at home (reused), and each piece can be recycled (or "upcycled" depending on what you do with your centerpieces after the wedding).

Ok, stupid question perhaps but does "upcycled" mean that you don't send them to be recycled, but rather reuse them for your own private purposes? It doesn't mean that you find new, improved creative ways to better the original purpose of a material good?

Doh, I sometimes get lost in a word. On a more coherent note, Mr. Man and I are putting more money into using only green home and body cleansers in 2010. Woot!

Hi Lydia,

I think that's a great question. Upcycling is basically just taking one product and repurposing it into another product. To be honest, it's kind of the same thing as recycling, but I think there is more of a crafting component to upcycling. For instance, turning your milk jug into a bird feeder would be upcycling, while taking your milk jug to the local recycling center is just plain recycling.

And yay for green cleaners! Do you have a Trader Joe's where you live? I love their line of green cleansers for the home.

You can find great looking vintage glass vases or bottles at just about any antique store. It is a great way to be green, and you may be able to get a deal when you buy in bulk.
