I remember being a kid and seeing editorial images of coastal wildlife covered in thick oil. The shore an eerie death field of beautiful birds turned into slimy carcasses. The devastation is not only heartbreaking, but it carries a detrimental ecological and economical impact as well. The recent oil spill in the Gulf is threatening wildlife such as the Brown pelican, the Reddish egret, and the Mottled Duck. (Check out this succinct, but informative article from The NY Times.) If you're getting married in the near future, consider forgoing favors and donating to partners of the World Wildlife Fund instead. If you're a really brave soul, volunteers will be needed by the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana.
