For many brides, part of the fun of getting married is choosing bridesmaids. Many will opt to commemorate the exciting occasion with a special lunch or handmade card to "pop the question" to her best gal pals. But when it comes to traditional rules of bridesmaids and groomsmen, which ones do you kick to the curb? For instance, some will argue that you have to have an equal number of bridesmaids and groomsmen, that a "best man" does not belong on the brides side," and that all bridesmaids should wear the same color. This sentiment seems to be dissipating though, with a new, more open-minded generation of brides and grooms walking down the aisle. Are you breaking any rules and if so, are you catching flack from the family?

All of 'my girls' were scattered across the MAP and so my husband and I decided on NO attendants. I had the girls come into the house prior to the ceremony starting, gave them bouquets and told them I had my some thing new, borrowed and blue but wanted them to be my something old. They are my oldest (and dearest) friends and it was a no-stress way for them to be apart of the day.
I'm still not sure on the number of bridesmaids for my wedding...do I add a couple more to even out the numbers on both sides? I do know that my fiance is going to have two best men, his best friend and his brother, and that my bridesmaids will be dressed in a rainbow of pastels. I feel that having all matching colors is dissipating a bit as bridesmaids are allowed to customize their look more.
We have one attendant each, and my partner's attendant is a best (wo)man. One of his oldest friends. Not sure how we'll dress 'em yet. I'd like for my bridesmaid to totally choose her own dress, but we have such completely different taste that I'm pretty sure I won't be able to help 'guiding' or 'offering an opinion'.
i am not choosing 'colors'...just saying green...the wedding party can do whatever they want with that info. my mom's (mom/stepmom) are a bit flustered with this idea thinking it will look tacky. but i dont care, i love my friends...i asked them to be in the wedding and thats exactly what i want...THEM-style and all!
my fiancee and i both have someone of the opposite sex standing with us...my best friend will be a bridesmen and his sister/best friend will be a groomsmaid. again the families dont understand why we wouldnt just switch them to make it appear more traditional. and i just flat out said no way. i want my friend to represent me along with my other old friends! and the fiancee is in agreement with the sis! although the sis (who is a bit more traditional) is kinda one of the naysayers:)
its our wedding...we will do it our way. it needs to represent us...thats what that day is celebrating!
